About this venue
The Marlowe Theatre stands on The Friars in central Canterbury, on the site of the 1933 Friars Cinema. The present building opened in October 2011.
The 1,200-seat Main House takes large-scale national touring drama, musicals, dance, comedy, music and opera. A second space, the Marlowe Studio, is given over to new work and to projects with regional artists; the operator publishes no capacity for it. The company also runs the Kit, a twelfth-century building on Stour Street used for its work with young people, which is a separate address and not part of this listing.
