About this venue

The Old Library was Colchester's first town-centre public library and now forms a self-contained events suite at Colchester Town Hall, reached by two entrances and ornate stairs from West Stockwell Street. Designed in Jacobean style, it has white lime-washed walls, high ceilings, curved timber gables, mullioned and stained-glass windows, chandeliers and a marble bar, with its own reception area, kitchen and cloakroom. The room measures 41 ft x 24 ft and holds up to 80. It is let by Colchester Venues, the council's events arm, for wedding ceremonies, receptions and parties, and comes with a built-in sound system, projector and screen, wireless microphone, hearing loop and Wi-Fi. Roman River Music (now part of Wild Arts) has run chamber concert series here, citing the room's acoustics.
