About this venue

The theatre on Bismarckplatz is the main house of the Staatstheater Regensburg (called Theater Regensburg until it was made a state theatre in May 2026), a multi-discipline company with its own ensembles for musical theatre, drama, dance and young theatre and its own philharmonic orchestra. The tiered auditorium in classicist decor was built in 1803/1804 and has been renovated and modernised several times. Its well-equipped stage, with a revolving stage, revolve ring and stage lifts, hosts opera, operetta, musicals, dance and drama, and the three tiers seat up to 520; the fourth tier serves as a lighting gallery. On the first floor, the festive Neuhaussaal is the concert hall of the Philharmonisches Orchester Regensburg, seating up to 400 in a classicist setting, and the Foyer Neuhaussaal opposite hosts introductions, talks, chamber concerts and concerts for toddlers. The Staatstheater lets the theatre on Bismarckplatz and the Neuhaussaal for ceremonies, congresses and other events, with catering from its gastronomy partner. Drinks and snacks are served in the Theatercafé before performances and in the interval.
