Tropicana

The Tropicana is Weston-super-Mare's Art Deco seafront landmark, built in 1937 as "The Pool" - then Europe's largest open-air swimming pool - and rebranded Tropicana in 1983. Closed in 2000 and derelict for 15 years, it reopened in 2016 as a flexible indoor/outdoor events space for live music, theatre, comedy, funfairs and exhibitions, hosting Banksy's Dismaland (2015) and the See Monster installation (2022). In 2026 North Somerset Council approved a 25-year lease to Live Nation to redevelop the site into a c.10,000-capacity venue restoring the original 1930s facade; demolition of the 1980s extensions began in early 2026 and the site is closed to events during construction, with reopening expected around 2028.
