From Conversation to Code: How The Need for Programme Clarity resulted in Event Tags

In this instalment of the Under The Hood series, we are picking out some of the gems that arise from the Crescat community to become fully-fledged features for all of our users. This is the “From Conversation to Code” instalment - shining a light on exactly what happens with a user suggestion.

The User: Esports World Cup 2025

The Spark: Managing a massive, multi-faceted event like the Esports World Cup requires more than just one level of categorisation with Event Types, it requires multi-layered classification.

The Conversation: The team at Esports World Cup highlighted the need for a secondary layer of organisation beyond the standard Event Types categorisation. They needed to add additional tags to their events, across a complex schedule and be able to pull reports on tag usage, to get a full picture of the extensive programme.

The Evolution: Internally, we reviewed the suggestion against adjacent ideas we had ourselves and had also heard from other users. We assessed the requirements and the resources it would take us to add such a feature. As something that would generate value for all of our users, we decided whatever we landed upon, we would make it available to our entire user community.

The Result: We developed a robust Tagging System for events, with visual filtering, easy customisation and reporting capabilities. Users can now create or select existing tags for any event. This doesn't just look good on a dashboard; it powers advanced calendar filtering and detailed reporting.

The Impact: Whether you are managing a huge multi-day event or just tonight’s show, the ability to categorise and organise via tags ensures you aren't just seeing a schedule, you’re seeing a strategy.
