About this venue
Rosendal Teater is a venue for performance, theatre, dance, music and debate on Innherredsveien in Trondheim, describing itself as open, curious, "super-international and hyper-local". Its stated mission is to be a regional hub for artists, arts organisations and audiences, and it co-produces and presents two seasons a year of performances, parties, concerts, installations, film screenings, festivals, residencies and talks. It works in partnership with the dance organisation DansiT and runs the Bastard festival.
The house has two flexible stages, a versatile rehearsal hall, and a café and bar with a mezzanine. Sal 1 takes about 185 seated or 500 standing; Sal 2 takes 102 seated or 250 standing; the Prøvesal holds 50 in total with an audience capacity of 35, but has no raked seating and is not normally let for public events.
Rooms are let when the theatre does not need them, and have hosted large debates, professional gatherings, dance courses, concerts and network meetings — but not parties or club nights. Rosendal Kafé runs its own programme of pop-ups, DJ nights, opera cafés and free concerts, and is booked separately.
The theatre puts substantial weight on accessibility, publishing a dedicated accessibility section covering facilities and measures, running relaxed performances, and maintaining a separate accessibility newsletter. It also declares itself an apartheid-free zone.
