Black Cat Bar & Bottle Shop

Black Cat is a craft beer bar, bottle shop and coffee shop at 174 Smithdown Road in south Liverpool. The business started in 2017 under the name Craft Taproom and was renamed Black Cat in 2021; it is the same operation continuing under a new name, not a successor in the same premises. It serves a rotating range of cask and keg beer, ciders, cocktails and spirits, with coffee and a pie menu alongside, and sells beer to take away.

The Smithdown site programmes regularly. It is one of the venues of the Smithdown Weekender, a free weekend festival of live music and DJs staged across several Smithdown Road bars. It has carried a live-music residency by the New Orleans brass band Sticky Lips, running Thursday nights from 9pm, and takes part in the operator's Halloween Weekender across its sites. A weekly quiz runs on Wednesdays, and there are regular DJ nights.

The operator now runs four sites: this one, Rose Lane, Black Cat Parr Street in the city centre - opened in October 2025 and styled Purr Street - and The Village Cat at 5-7 Allerton Road in Woolton Village. Photography of the group is shared across all four, so images should be matched to a site by its signage.

No capacity figure is published for the Smithdown room. Current opening hours are on the operator's own site.
