About this venue

The Festhalle was designed by Friedrich von Thiersch and opened in May 1909 for the 11th German Gymnastics Festival. Its steel-and-glass cupola, about 40 metres high at its peak, was hailed at the time as a landmark of modern engineering, and the hall remains one of the defining buildings of the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. Today it is run by Messe Frankfurt as one of Germany's largest event and concert halls. The programme spans arena tours in rock, pop, hip hop and metal alongside shows, musicals, circus, sporting events such as show jumping, congresses and product presentations. The floor of 5,646 square metres takes up to 4,880 seats in rows; with the two tiers added the hall seats up to 9,843, and with an unseated floor it holds over 13,500. Messe Frankfurt gives the overall maximum as 15,000. The hall is next to the Festhalle/Messe stop (U4, trams 16 and 17, bus 50) and within walking distance of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. Bookings go through Messe Frankfurt's guest events sales team, which also supplies in-house event technicians, catering, furniture and logistics.
