The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum

The Wilson is Gloucestershire's leading art gallery and museum, on Clarence Street in the centre of Cheltenham. It is run by The Cheltenham Trust, the charity that also operates Cheltenham Town Hall and Pittville Pump Room. Its permanent collections cover fine art, archaeology, local history and an internationally significant Arts and Crafts Movement collection. It also has the Open Archive relating to the Antarctic explorer Edward A Wilson, the Sir Charles Irving Community Art Gallery, the Summerfield exhibition gallery, the WOW children's gallery and the Foyle learning centre. Alongside touring and temporary exhibitions, The Wilson runs talks, workshops and family events. The ground-floor arts café serves food and drink, with acoustic live music at weekend brunches. Admission is free, with a suggested donation. Its rooms, galleries and café are let for private and corporate events, including lunches and dinners, talks, workshops and meetings, through the Trust's venue sales team. The Arts and Crafts gallery closed from 1 June 2026 for works. New museum galleries, part of Cheltenham's Big Museum Project, are due to open with a reopening weekend on 24 and 25 October.
