What does 'Show Stop' mean?

In live event production, a "show stop" refers to an unplanned and immediate halt of an event due to an emergency, technical issue, or other significant interruption that prevents the event from continuing safely or as planned. This can be triggered by various reasons such as severe weather, equipment failure, security threats, or serious medical emergencies.

The decision to initiate a show stop is typically made by the event’s production director or safety officer. It involves quickly and efficiently stopping the performance or activity, securing the stage and equipment, and addressing the audience to ensure their safety, often through predefined emergency procedures and announcements.

After the issue causing the show stop is resolved, the production team assesses whether and how the event can resume. In some cases, the event may be postponed, rescheduled, or canceled depending on the severity of the interruption and the remaining logistical, time, and safety constraints.
